Friday, September 18, 2009 at 8:09AM The yacht was found drifting 6 weeks later. 300 miles out. No crew. Just silence, and 6 smashed wine glasses below.
When I sailed across the Atlantic in '92 we were becalmed for 3 days in the middle. We went swimming in water 6km deep, with a long long rope of the back of the yacht. (Yacht's move in the water, even when becalmed).
There were only three of us, and we made sure that at least one person was always aboard... but I remember thinking then how easy it would be to watch your yacht drift slowly out of reach. You would be able to se it for hours... moving slowly further away.
Brrrr.
