Friday, October 2, 2009 at 8:04AM Another day, another Marketing guy sees Social Media as a “channel”. "Yada yada yada" said the guy, even as I showed him out.
There is nothing so good and so fun that salesman can't find a way to sell shit through it.
Here's our standard SM Rant over at Semantic.
1) Social media is a conversation, not a (bloody) channel to market.
2) "Conversations" are 2 sided, so don't just push your fucking press releases at me. Talk. Listen. Converse.
3) Conversations require personality. Big business = less personality (I generalise for effect)
Hint: If Social Media scares you because you are worried about talking off-message, you don't get it. Easier just to be irrelevant until the lights go out.
